This Sunday St. Stephen’s will host a ‘Songs of Praise’ service in which several members of the congregation will be choosing their own favourite hymn or worship song, and sharing with the congregation the reasons for their choice.

This comes at the end of a series of services where each Sunday the different preachers have chosen a favourite hymn or song and spoken about their themes, theology or spiritual significance. Choices have included:

Meeting together through Lent

There are many fruitful ways to make the most of the season of Lent but one popular tradition is to commit to joining a Lent group. The group meet together weekly throughout Lent in order to meet with other Christians to pray, to study and to grow. If you would like to join us there are two groups meeting this year:

The Magnificence of Prayer

– an exploration of some of the great prayers of the Christian faith

Wednesday evenings from 21st February – meeting at St. Matthew’s Church, St. Petersburgh Place, London, W2 4LA

Food will be served from 7.30pm.
Lent discussions will start shortly after 8pm.
A time of prayer will start shortly after 9pm.

Praying is like breathing; it gives life to our Souls, connecting us to our creator.

The Joy of the Gospel

– a prayerful study of ‘Evangelii Gaudium – the Joy of the Gospel’ written by Pope Francis

Pope Francis writes: ‘The joy of the gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus. Those who accept his offer of salvation are set free from sin, sorrow, inner emptiness and loneliness. With Christ joy is constantly born anew.’

Thursday evenings from 22nd February – 7.30-9.30pm – meeting at St. Stephen’s Vicarage, 25 Talbot Road, London, W2 5JF

Copies of the book are available from St. Stephen’s church.Lent Group 2018

Harvest Festival

Harvest Lunch

Harvest was celebrated with a special all-age service with 19 young people helping to lead liturgy, play music, read scripture and offer prayers of thanksgiving.

Harvest gifts were received and, in combination with those donated from St. Stephen’s CofE Primary School, will be passed on to support the ministry of the Upper Room in Shepherd’s Bush.

After the service many stayed on to share in an international lunch with members of the congregation sharing food that reflected their own ethnic and national culinary traditions.

The weather was so warm many sat outside to eat in the sunshine!

Loving God, we come this day to praise you,
to celebrate your great goodness.
We come with thanksgiving, joy and wonder,
reminding ourselves of the richness of your creation,
and acknowledging your faithfulness
in providing for all our needs
and far beyond.
Lord of the harvest:
We give you thanks and praise!

For the beauty of the seasons,
the constant cycle of night and day,
and the vital gifts of rain and sunshine,
Lord of the harvest:
We give you thanks and praise!

For the miracle of growth,
the wonder of life
and the incredible variety
that surrounds us in the world,
Lord of the harvest:
We give you thanks and praise!

Receive our worship,
accept our offerings,
bless our celebration,
and fill us with thankfulness
for all you have given,
Lord of the harvest:
We give you thanks and praise!

Welcome Denzel and David

Just two weeks after his birth, Chinaka and Temitope brought their wonderful baby son, Denzel Chuckwuechetam Oluwaferanmi, to St. Stephens to be baptised as part of our Harvest worship. One of his older brothers, David Ayodeji Awoniji was also baptised – a double family celebration!

Family and friends gathered to join in this special occasion as Denzel and David were welcomed into the Church, and the parents and godparents made commitments to bring them up as followers of Jesus.

Chinaka, Temitope, Daniel, David and Denzel have been worshiping at St. Stephen’s since last Christmas. It is lovely to have them as part of our church family.

If you would like to speak to someone about your child being baptised at St. Stephen’s then please join us for worship at 11am one Sunday and introduce yourself to Jeremy our Vicar.
