Set in the wider context of the Diocese of London, St. Stephen’s Church is part of the Deanery of Paddington which stretches from Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park in the south, to Kilburn in the north, to Edgware Road in the east, and up to the boundary with Notting Hill in the west. It is a very varied deanery with extremes of wealth and poverty, and huge ethnic diversity.
In the deanery there are 12 CofE churches and 8 schools. Each church elects representatives to the Deanery Synod where they meet together for discussion, and mutual support and encouragement. Recent topics at Synod have covered pastoral responses to prostitution and human trafficking in Paddington; personal development and training; Capital Vision 2020; and ministry with children and youth. The clergy also meet together on a regular basis for prayer and fellowship.
