Tour de Park

image1Admittedly not quite Chris Froome and the Tour de France, but to help raise funds towards the cost of going on summer ventures, 8 young people from St. Stephen’s, supported by friends and parents, cycled over 100 miles around Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park to raise sponsorship of over £500.

The Ventures are organised by CPAS. This summer there are 86 ‘camps’ providing exciting, fun-filled holidays for over 3000 young people aged 8 to 18 but also encouraging them to become and live as followers of Jesus Christ.

Twelve young people from St. Stephen’s have enjoyed joining Ventures in Dorset, Somerset and Suffolk. Tiffany Robsion, our Children’s and Youth Work Co-ordinator also joined the group who went to Dorset as a Venture leader for the first-time. They all had a fantastic time and can’t wait to go back again next year.

Massive thanks to everyone who generously sponsored our super cyclists.

Happy, Healthy Holiday Club

20160603_134901Over the school half-term holiday, we helped run a children’s holiday club in partnership with Westbourne Park Family Centre. Thirty-six primary school aged children attended the club, and a dozen teenagers assisted as young leaders.

Ofsted inspected the club to consider our provision for 5 year-olds which they rated as ‘Good’, but they particularly noted how happy the children all were and the very positive role models provided by the teenagers.

Throughout the club, we focused on healthy living and the importance of ‘friends, food, fitness, focus and faith’, illustrated by stories of Daniel from the bible.

The holiday club is a much valued provision for local families, and the children always enjoy a happy, healthy time!

Working at the Car Wash

Car Wash 2016-1On Saturday, 30th April, a group of 14 young people, ably assisted by some of their parents, undertook a fund-raising car wash outside the front of the church.

In brilliant spring sunshine, and with military efficiency, they worked extremely hard to polish and preen, inside and out, a never ending stream of cars for 5 hours. While their cars were washed, the owners consumed home-made cakes, tea, coffee etc, before being re-introduced to their cars, now in near showroom condition – and in some cases that was quite a challenge!

All customers went away pleased and impressed, and generously donated over £500. Thank you to all who donated and to those who worked so hard.

The young people are raising funds towards the cost of their summer camps and in total hope to raise £2000. So all donations are welcome, and watch this space to hear about future fund-raising events.

Thursday Youth group is back!

IMG_0352There back! Starting with a feast of pizza at the Vicarage and plenty of time to catch up on the summer action, our Youth Group resumed for the new academic year.

Under the amazing leadership of Tiffany Jackson, the group meet each Thursday at St. Stephen’s Church from 6pm for food, games, bible study, prayer, discussion and general madness. Don’t let the photo put you off – all are welcome – and they are even quite nice…..
